PROM

Programmable Read-Only Memory.  Also OTPROM: One-Time PROM.  These computer memory devices are used to store data in a manner that is easily read, but can only be written at the factory before during assembly.  Many decoder manufacturers use PROMs to store the machine code instructions used to run the decoder since it allows them to put the most up-to-date code into the decoder during production.
