Another beast for the stable!

Another beast for the stable!

I made a mistake buying a large prairie from Rails of Sheffield but…

I ended up rectifying it by buying from Youchoos a Next 18 sound chip and speaker which just push fitted into place.  Ok so now I have an ordinary decoder spare for any new locos with next 18 sockets.  Why sound, well most of the existing rolling stock have been converted to sound using Youchoos Zimo sound decoders with classic sounds and I want all locos that move on a sequence to have sound.  There are just a few left for me to convert and I will blog about those when we need to convert them as they are all GWR pannier tanks.

One new loco I put on my wish list is a Mogal which used to run on the Yeovil to Taunton line but I need to fix a couple of existing locos first;

  1. A Hornby T9 314 which runs in reverse which I use to copy the identical train passing through the station from Taunton and being run around at Yeovil Pen Mill station.  I have the two trains which simulates the first one being run around and then coming back through Yeovil Town.  This as with all these early Hornby T9s had a motor housing made from a substance which just crumbles into dust-like pieces over time.  I have already changed a few of these but whilst repairing this one with replacements made for a stout metal from Peter Spares I caught the motor housing plastic with my soldering iron attaching the one wire I had to remove! I now have ordered a replacement motor and will need to solder two wires…
  2. A Pannier tank which has been converted to have a DCC controlled coupler each end to use as a yard shunter - moving coal wagons around for refuelling locos and coal staves.
