North Road
N gauge by Paul Ratcliffe

My layout was inspired by a publication in the Railway modeller November 2008 edition. The layout in the edition was originally called Collier Street and was produced by the well known Model Railway designer Mr Paul A Lunn. The overall idea of the Layout was to have as much operation as possible in a small space , that space being 4 ft long by 18 inches wide. In N gauge that was easy.
I have seen the Original layout at last years Warley Show and was quite inspired with it. Although I have used the same kits and original peco setrack , there will be some minor differences between this layout and the original. One of the major differences being that the original was set in the 70’s and I’ve gone for a mid to late 80’s period using BR blue rolling stock and engines. Alongside this I have also DCC’d the layout.
At present I am working on completing the station in preparation to build the hill and back scene. Work is also progressing on the many houses that go at the back on top of the hill. These are usually getting built at home when the wife’s watching Corrie !!!!
I have been on this project since December 2008 and have no set time to complete it , however plans are afoot to give the layout a separate fiddle yard for exhibiting purposes and also to expand the layout into something much bigger where North Road will bolt on to be the terminus. The rolling stock will include 37’s , 47’s 156 sprinters and 108’s along with a Crompton and also a Gronk . May be even one day a HST and a china clay train for the west country lovers !!!!
